Terms of use

Parent Cab is a joke meter, not a real cab. These terms are the serious bit: please read them, especially the part about driving.

Last updated 28 September 2026. These terms cover the Parent Cab app for iPhone and iPad and this website, parentcab.app. By downloading or using Parent Cab you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Who we are

Parent Cab is made by Zac Tolley, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. In these terms "we" and "us" means Zac, and "you" means the person using the app. You can reach us at hello@parentcab.app.

What Parent Cab is, and isn't

• Parent Cab is for fun. It works out a pretend fare for the lifts you give your family, so you can send them a cheeky receipt.
• Fares aren't real charges. Nobody owes anybody anything because of the app. Whether a fare is paid in cash, chores, hugs or not at all is entirely between you and your family.
• It's not a taxi, private hire or ride-hailing service. It doesn't arrange, provide or licence transport, and it doesn't make you a taxi or private hire driver.
• It's not financial, legal or tax advice, and it isn't a mileage log. Don't rely on it for expense or mileage claims, tax returns, insurance, or anything where an accurate record matters.
• It's for personal, family use, not for business or commercial use.

Using Parent Cab while driving

• Keep your eyes on the road and follow the law and the Highway Code. In the UK it's illegal to hold and use a phone while driving, including when you're stopped in traffic. See GOV.UK: using mobile phones when driving.
• If your phone is where you can see it, it must be secured in a holder that doesn't block your view of the road.
• A passenger may use the app for you, as long as it doesn't distract you.
• You are always responsible for driving safely. No fare is worth an accident.

Fares, distances and times are estimates

Parent Cab measures trips with your phone's GPS, which is never perfect. Distance and waiting time can be off, especially with a weak signal, in tunnels or when the phone is low on power or saving battery. Town names come from Apple and may be wrong or missing. If the late-night rate starts at sunset, sunset is worked out approximately. iOS can also stop the app or its location updates, so a trip may be cut short or not recorded. We try hard to be accurate, but we can't promise it.

What you put in and share

• You're responsible for what you type into Parent Cab and for the receipts and exports you share, and who you share them with.
• Only add passengers you're responsible for, or who are happy to be included. A first name and an emoji is all the app needs; please don't add more identifying details to trip names.
• Keep it kind. Receipts are meant to make people laugh, not to embarrass or pressure anyone.

How we handle data is explained in our privacy policy. In short, your data stays on your devices and in your own cloud account (iCloud on iPhone and iPad), and we never see it.

Your licence to use the app

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Parent Cab on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. Your use of the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA). If these terms and the Standard EULA disagree, the Standard EULA applies, except where these terms give you more rights.

The Parent Cab name, icon, design, text and code belong to us, and the fonts it uses belong to their authors under their own licences. Please don't copy, sell or redistribute the app, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows.

Price and purchases

Parent Cab is free to download. This version has no in-app purchases, subscriptions or adverts. If we offer optional extras in future, the price will be shown in the App Store before you buy, Apple will handle the payment and any refund under its own terms, and your legal rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, won't be affected.

Changes and availability

• We may update Parent Cab to add, change or remove features, fix problems or keep up with iOS. Some updates may be needed to keep using it.
• We may stop offering Parent Cab. If we do, your data stays on your devices and in your iCloud, and you can still export it from Settings → Your data.
• iCloud sync depends on Apple and your Apple Account, which we don't control.
• You can stop using Parent Cab at any time by deleting it. Use Delete all data first if you also want your data removed from iCloud.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

If digital content we supply damages a device or other digital content belonging to you because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll either repair the damage or pay you fair compensation. We aren't responsible for damage you could have avoided by following our advice to install an update, or by meeting the minimum system requirements.

Otherwise, because Parent Cab is a free app for fun:

• We're responsible only for loss or damage that was a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for loss or damage that wasn't foreseeable.
• Parent Cab is for domestic and private use. We aren't liable for any loss of profit, business or business opportunity.
• We aren't responsible for anything that happens because the app was used while driving against the advice above, or because someone relied on a fare, distance or time as if it were accurate or real.
• We aren't responsible for services run by others, such as iCloud, Apple Maps or the apps you share receipts through.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the app changes or the law does. We'll post the new version here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so in the app's release notes. If you keep using Parent Cab after a change, the new terms apply.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
